Multiple agencies worked together to help put out a fire that broke out inside Traders Village Houston on Sunday afternoon.
Cy-Fair Fire Department responded to reports of a fire around 12:20 p.m. at Traders Village flea market as it was packed with people and vendors enjoying a Sunday afternoon.SUGGESTED:"All of a sudden we’re like do you smell that? I smell smoke. And my buddies over here we’re looking around and he’s like there’s a huge fire! I took a video of it it’s crazy, it was just like a bunch of explosions of fireworks. I had my kids with me so we got my kids evacuated very fast," Rios said.
"The fire is contained to one structure. There’s some smoke damage from an inning to a neighboring structure, but the fire is contained to a single structure," said Capt. James Singleton with the Harris County Fire Marshals Office. The office says a total of 24 units and vendors were affected by the fire. Investigators said two people were injured, including a firefighter. Both were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation but are in stable condition.
Dotti Parker says it was her family’s first weekend as vendors at Trader’s Village. "I looked up and saw a little bit of brown smoke and then it turned to black smoke," she says. "It just got worse and worse and worse.She said her son Cody sprung to action to save several live animals that were trapped at the market when the flames erupted.
"They had a whole bunch of birds and different animals there, so he was moving them over to a different location, getting them out of the smoke," Parker said. Traders Village Houston was shut down for the rest of the day. Harris County Sheriff's Office, Jersey Village Fire Department, and Cy-Fair Fire Department all arrived to assist.
