Dr Clare Looker has been named Victoria’s next chief health officer.
Public health expert Dr Clare Looker has been named as Victoria’s next chief health officer as Professor Brett Sutton leaves the role.
Her experience at the department includes working alongside Sutton throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, holding the position of deputy chief health officer. She has also worked in clinical medicine and as an epidemiologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her contributions in the field of health were recognised in the 2022 Victorian Public Sector Women Awards.surprise resignation of Sutton from the Victorian health departmentSutton left the top job after four years in the role to accept a position at the CSIRO.
“We once again thank him for his incredible contribution to Victoria since he started in the role in 2019 and wish him every success in his new position,” the Department of Health said in Friday’s final COVID update.
