Police have launched an appeal to trace the suspect after a 31-year-old woman was left 'badly shaken' following the incident on Cassels Street, earlier this week.

A woman was sexually assaulted before her handbag was stolen in Lanarkshire, earlier this week. Detectives have now launched an appeal to help bring the suspect to justice.

The 31-year-old was walking along Cassels Street, in Carluke, when the incident took place. It is understood to have happened at some point between 11.50pm on Sunday, September 3, and 12.40am on Monday, September 4.Cops are now hunting down the suspect. He is described as being around 40 years old with short dark hair.Detective Constable Darroch said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim who has been badly shaken by what happened.

“It is vital that we trace the man involved, who is believed to have discarded the handbag on Church Lane before heading down Union Street towards Kirkton Street. “I am appealing for anyone who was in the surrounding area around the time of the assault, any saw anything which could assist the investigation, to please get in touch with Wishaw CID via 101, quoting incident number 0110 of Monday, 4 September, 2023. Alternatively you can call Crimsetoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
