David Runciman has been jailed for 16 months for the gratuitous attack

A man who suffered a serious eye injury in an unprovoked attack in Blackpool asked 'why me?' as the man responsible was jailed.

Hanifa Patel, prosecuting, said at 1:45am a member of the club's security team saw what he thought was a glass being thrown from the balcony. He looked down onto the dancefloor and saw Runciman launch himself at the unsuspecting victim. "I give no-one the right to assault me", he said. "The one answer I would like is, why me? What did I do to deserve this?".

Runciman, of Kittiwake Close, Thornton Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to wounding and appeared at Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.
