The Victorian Premier has gone on the defensive over Labor's walk-out of state parliament while in opposition after slamming the Coalition for doing the exact same thing during Question Time on Thursday.

Ms Allan sought to justify the party's decision by claiming Labor needed to take a stand against service cuts by the then Coalition government. "But what we were standing up for at that time was for the broader issues in the Victorian community, particularly around… the war that was going on with paramedics, the cuts that were going on in schools and hospitals by the former Napthine-Baillieu Liberal government.

"We were getting frustrated during the week. I know it was a big call but we made it for a reason," he told ABC Radio Melbourne's Raf Epstein.
