Damien Green’s failed attempt to become MP for the newly-created seat of Weald of Kent has been linked to the pro-Boris Johnson Conservative Democratic Organisation
Damian Green could still put his name forward as the selection of an MP goes to the wider constituency membership Veteran Tory MP Damian Green was rejected as a constituency candidate for the next election in a move linked to a pro-Boris Johnson group.
There have been suggestions that the group, which pledges to “restore democracy” within the party, is targeting the reselection of MPs who called for Mr Johnson’s resignation as prime minister last year. In a separate post, Mr Bannerman also appeared to suggest that MPs that did not back Mr Johnson “might be getting a little nervous” and that their deselection would be a “revenge of the membership”.
But the CDO’s deputy chairman Stephen Greenhalgh, a Tory peer, insisted that Mr Green’s deselection was not linked to Mr Johnson. He could still put his name forward as the selection of an MP goes to the wider constituency membership.
