But by the time Friday arrived, the Colts’ interim coach was non-committal on his quarterback situation. Asked directly if Ryan would be Ehlinger’s backup, Saturday responded with a “yeah,” but it was far from a firm commitment to Ehlinger.
Saturday, the interim coach hired to replace Reich, was asked earlier this week if he’d been given full power to make decisions on the starting quarterback position.Ehlinger hasn’t turned the ball over as much as Ryan — the young quarterback has lost one fumble and thrown an interception in his two starts; Ryan threw nine interceptions and lost three fumbles in his seven starts — but the Colts’ offensive efficiency has dropped overall.
