Veteran Korean actress Lee Joo-Sil has passed away at the age of 81 at her family home in Uijeongbu, South Korea, due to stomach cancer. Lee had been battling the disease since last November and had previously overcome Stage 4 breast cancer over 30 years ago. Her funeral service is scheduled for February 5th at Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul. Lee Joo-Sil was widely recognized for her role as So Mun's grandmother in the hit Netflix series Squid Game .
She portrayed Park Mal-soon, the caring mother of Hwang Jun-Ho (Wi Ha-Joon) and Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), navigating the chaos of the deadly competition. This role showcased her talent and brought her to a wider audience.Beyond Squid Game, Lee Joo-Sil had a prolific career spanning decades, appearing in numerous television shows, movies, and other productions.
