Drivers across central Ohio say roads turned dangerous quickly Saturday as snow and falling temperatures created icy conditions across the region. From neighborhood side streets to major routes north of the city, drivers reported slipping, sliding and close calls as the winter storm moved in. The city says all hands are on deck this weekend, with 88 snow plows deployed across Columbus. Even so, officials warn it will take time to fully clear roadways. “Very treacherous,” said Nathan Zufelt. “A lot of people sliding on the hills. I’ve seen a lot of fender benders, so you better have all-wheel drive or snow tires.” Along U.S. 23 toward Delaware, conditions deteriorated within hours as snow accumulated and temperatures dropped. “The side roads are bad, but I did see two salt trucks out,” said Bryant Euans, who stopped to fuel up his pickup ahead of worsening weather. As drivers dealt with slick pavement, Columbus Snow Warriors were out treating streets throughout the afternoon. Even so, officials warn it will take time to fully clear roadways. Tourville said those materials help improve traction but do not work as quickly as salt in warmer conditions. Because of that, the city is asking residents for patience as conditions continue to change. The city says all hands are on deck this weekend, with 88 snow plows deployed across Columbus.
