El mexicoamericano Vergil Ortiz regresó al ring con autoridad al noquear a Erickson Lubin en apenas dos rounds la noche del sábado en el Dickies Arena de Dallas, Texas. La victoria le permitió a Ortiz conservar el título interino superwelter del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo.
Ortiz encontró la vía rápida en el segundo episodio con una derecha plena que sacudió a Lubin y lo dejó contra las cuerdas. El castigo posterior obligó al réferi James Green a detener la pelea al minuto 1:30. A sus 27 años, Ortiz firmó la segunda defensa de la corona que ganó en febrero ante Israil Madrimov. Con este triunfo, el texano se encamina a un esperado choque ante Jaron Ennis en 2026.
