Verdict on NajibRazak's bid to review SRC conviction on March 31
Lawyer Farhan Shafee, a member of the former prime minister’s legal team, said they received an email from the Federal Court registry earlier today. A five-member bench chaired by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abdul Rahman Sebli had heard submissions from both Najib’s defence team and the prosecution over six days between Jan 19 and Feb 28.Also on the panel are Justices Vernon Ong, Rhodzariah Bujang, Nordin Hassan and Abu Bakar Jais.
Najib began his 12-year prison term on Aug 23, 2022 immediately following the Federal Court’s dismissal of his final appeal. The former Pekan MP filed a motion to review the ruling in September last year on grounds that the court had breached the principles of natural justice, including his right to fair trial and to counsel. Should the review be allowed, the Federal Court ruling on Aug 23 will be set aside and a new bench will rehear the appeal.
