Veolia Water customers are frustrated as they continue to see discolored water, despite the company spending days flushing the system all week prior. The company on Monday said customers are reporting seeing this happen again because discolored water is trapped in "pockets.
" Customers argue that it's just another excuse."Friday's good, Monday's not good. So, it's kind of like a hit or miss," said Roseann Cadau, a Veolia Customer in Susquehanna Township. Flushing the system last week initially worked for some, like Cadau. However, it wasn't long before it turned to a brownish color again. On Monday, Veolia said it's continuing to flush the system in Marysville, Susquehanna, Lower Paxton and Swatara, but now doing it in spots with the highest concentration of calls. "It has to be more than flushing the system for this amount — this widespread — for this long of time," Cadau said. Other customers, like Dave DePeau of Lower Paxton Township, have also claimed that the company's remedies not only don't work now, but it hasn't worked in the past. DePeau said Veolia Water replaced the water main pipes on his street roughly two years ago, following numerous breaks. Still, despite the "fix," he's still dealing with discoloration and other issues with Veolia Water. He said he now only drinks water from bottles bought at the store. "The Veolia spokesperson came out, ran the water, and said, 'Oh, this is fine to drink.' And she drank, you know, a nice big cup of it," he said. Veolia confirmed the safety of the water with CBS 21, providing a water quality report that is sent to the Department of Environmental Protection."Aren't Pennsylvania residents deserving of clean water? We're paying for it. You know, elected officials are on that pulpit saying clean air, clean water in Pennsylvania. Where? It's not in Susquehanna Township," said Cadau. "PUC needs to regulate them a lot better than they are now. Ok? That's the way I feel." CBS 21 wrote to the PUC today to get some answers. We asked them questions, such as whether Veolia Water would be fined for this or how many complaints they had received. A spokesperson told us they're closely monitoring the situation and they encourage customers to reach out with their concerns.Veolia has still not identified the cause of this issue, and it remains unclear when they'll find it. Customers who are still experiencing this issue are encouraged to contact Veolia so they can arrange for a technician to visit their area.
