Usual parking controls have been relaxed

A hospital car park has appeared rather full this week, with some drivers having to resort to parking on double yellow lines and grass areas in the car park. On Tuesday, July 4, the car park at Newark Hospital was exceedingly full, with many cars having to park on parts of the car park that were not spaces, on double yellow lines and on grass areas near the entrance.

The car park off Boundary Road is currently used by staff, volunteers, visitors and patients of the hospital, as well as those needing to attend the Urgent Care Centre. The car park has previously experienced problems with limited parking spaces and plan to add extra spaces. A plan has been approved for additional 80 spaces to be built over the new few months at the hospital, to help reduce the strain on the current car park. These new spaces on a 1.2 hectare piece of land off Bowbridge Road will include 59 standard spaces, five accessible bays and 16 electric vehicle charging points.

It is expected that staff members will use these new spaces, which will free up more spaces for patients and visitors in the main car park. A spokesperson for the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust has confirmed that parking attendants are also working on the hospital site to assist people to park appropriately.

The Trust also explained that the usual parking controls have been relaxed to allow more vehicles on site where safe to do so, and that they apologise to anyone experiencing inconvenience.
