'He was cowardly shot while working tirelessly to serve our community this evening,' Sheriff Robert Luna said.
Police cars block off a street where a sheriff's deputy was shot while in his patrol car in Palmdale, Calif. on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023., a gray Toyota Corolla pulled up alongside the patrol car he was driving, investigators said.
After the Corolla drove away, Clinkunbroomer's cruiser remained at the light, where a "Good Samaritan discovered him unconscious in his vehicle and promptly alerted Palmdale Station personnel," police said. "This coward of cowards took his life while he waited at a red light," Sheriff Robert Luna said during a press conference.
