DA leader John Steenhuisen has complained that the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests sanction against EFF deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, on the VBS scandal is too lenient.
The committee gave Shivambu a nine days' salary fine for the non-disclosure of three payments totalling R180 000, from Sgameka Projects between 18 August and 26 August 2017, according to Parliament's acting Registrar of Members' Interests, advocate Anthea Gordon. Gordon made this revelation in response to a complaint by DA leader John Steenhuisen on 18 October 2019 related to the VBS scandal. Former DA MP, Phumzile van Damme, received the same letter from Gordon from a complaint she had laid on 16 October 2018. Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
