The Catholic Church has declared a North Texas order of nuns 'extinct' after a conflict involving accusations that a nun broke her vow of chastity with a priest via email and video chat. The Vatican issued a degree of suppression stating the Carmelite Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity in Arlington no longer exists. The order faced a battle with Fort Worth Bishop Michael Olson, who investigated Rev. Mother Teresa Agnes Gerlach after receiving a report of a vow of chastity violation. Gerlach denied the accusations and claimed to be impaired by medication during an audio recording where she reportedly admitted to the violation.
The Catholic Church has declared a North Texas order of nuns 'extinct' after conflict including accusations that a nun broke her vow of chastity with a priest — via email and video chat. The Vatican issued a degree of suppression Nov. 29 declaring that it no longer considers the Carmelite Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity in Arlington to exist, according to a statement Dec. 2 from the Diocese of Fort Worth.
San Antonio tattoo shop's actual owner: Impostor accused of sexual assault fired The Vatican appointed Olson to handle the allegations against Gerlach in May, according to the National Catholic Register. The bishop announced in June that he found Gerlach guilty of breaking her vow of chastity, dismissing her from the order.
San Antonio's worst restaurant inspections from November Olson appointed a new leader, who dismissed all seven nuns at the monastery in October for 'notorious defection of the Catholic faith.” The nuns believe their October dismissal is invalid because they did not consider Olson’s appointed superior their true leader. Against the wishes of the diocese, the nuns had reelected Gerlach as their leader and affiliated themselves with the Society of Saint Pius X, KERA reported.
