Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has refused to say whether he believes Sinn Féin has links to criminality until the Gerry Hutch trial is over
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has refused to say whether he believes Sinn Féin has links to criminality until the Gerry Hutch trial in the Special Criminal Court is over.
Party leader Mary Lou McDonald’s name has been mentioned several times throughout the trial as former Dublin Sinn Féin councillor Jonathan Dowdall testified.Hutch, 59, is on trial before the Republic's Special Criminal Court for the murder of Kinahan cartel associate David Byrne in Dublin’s Regency Hotel on February 5, 2016 - a charge he denies.
When asked if he believed Sinn Fein had connections to criminality, Mr Varadkar said he did not want to comment on an ongoing trial. Mr Varadkar said that while businesses have not raised concerns about Sinn Féin’s alleged links to crime, they are worried about their “economic policies”.
