Vandal captured on video breaking Pride flags, throwing them on ground at Houston ’s Montrose Center Galveston vintage car repairman sentenced to 60 years for stealing customers’ vehiclesA report has been filed to Houston Police Department after a person was captured on video vandalizing Pride flags outside of Houston ’s Montrose Center .
The incident happened on Thursday. Footage shared with KPRC 2 showed the person pulling the flags out of the fence outside the center and throwing them on the ground. In a statement to KPRC 2, the Montrose Center said the flags were a recent addition, being added in 2025 as a symbol to support the LGBTQ+ community. Avery Belyeu the CEO of the Montrose Center, said the center has not determined whether this incident was an act of anti-gay sentiment or the result of a mental crisis, but she understands that the LGBTQ+ community has often been targeted by these types of actions. “Let us be clear: we are not going anywhere,” Belyeu said in a statement. “You can tear down a thousand of our flags and we will still show up every day to provide affirming care and a safe space for our community to connect, gather, and show our Pride.” The idea for the flags was inspired after the area’s iconic rainbow crosswalk was removed following a federal mandate called the “Safe Roads Initiative.”The Montrose Center is making its team available for support and community outreach. There will also be an increased security presence at the second-annual Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Community Summit, which will take place on Feb. 7-8.Breaking News AlertsMichael is a Kingwood native who loves visiting local restaurants and overreacting to Houston sports.
