Vice President JD Vance has publicly defended the Trump administration's commitment to releasing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein , pushing back against suggestions that the White House was not fully transparent.
In an interview, Vance, who was present during key decisions, referenced the release of emails that he claimed showed Epstein harbored animosity toward Donald Trump, noting that Trump had reported Epstein to law enforcement in the past. He also asserted that former President Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act of his own accord and was not acting under duress from Republican congressional leaders.
The act, signed in November 2025, mandates the Department of Justice to make public all unclassified records, investigative files, flight logs and communications concerning Epstein's investigation and prosecution, which concluded with Epstein's death by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Vance explained that any delays in the release process are partly due to the court system and also because some of the pending materials are simply duplicates of documents that have already been shared with the public.
He stated emphatically, We're not holding anything back. Additionally, Vance denied that he had ever sought advice from former Vice President Mike Pence, a claim Pence himself confirmed during a separate interview. Regarding his own history with Epstein, Vance admitted that before entering the vice presidency he was deeply troubled by Epstein's connections to wealthy and powerful figures and was motivated by a desire for full transparency.
The discussion also touched on media coverage, with Vance cautioning listeners not to take everything reported in newspapers at face value, noting that some stories lack crucial context. Meanwhile, entertainers Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, whose names appeared in the Epstein files, used their platform on The View to address the mentions.
Goldberg confirmed that her name is in the records but suggested that the lists serve to muddy the waters, while Behar pointed out the presence of many notable names and implied the documents may be used to create confusion. Both hosts had previously been critical of the Trump administration, though Goldberg expressed gratitude that Vance agreed to appear on the show.
