It's back... and it's wetter than ever
The Viking long boats of Valhalla have finally returned to the water after being cast ashore for four years, with the ride reopening for the first time since 2019.
The reimagining also features thunder, lightning and snow along its half-mile journey - putting riders through both plunging temperatures and extreme heat.View gallery Adam Slevin, director of creative, design and experience at the Pleasure Beach, spearheaded the daunting project to re-imagine the epic ride. It began back on Boxing Day in 2019, with the first "sketch" of how he and the design team wanted it to look.
The system allows for technicians to adapt and change special effects, meaning a rider's experience could different each time they board a boat "There's eight 'show' controllers around the ride and they work in a network and talk to each other. On a closed day we can add an effect in and alter something at any time, and not have to do all the re-wiring. People will go on the ride multiple times and it is nice to know that at some point we can do things they won't expect and still get a jump out of them."
We went on Valhalla and this is what we thought LancsLive reporter Denise Evans and photographer James Maloney were among the first in the queue to try Valhalla on its official reopening day.
