Vacancy in key cybersecurity position leaves U.S. at risk of attacks | Opinion
An ambitious cybersecurity plan can not be implemented until a new national cyber director is named for a permanent position. The White House has allowed a critical cybersecurity position to remain unfilled without a permanent replacement for almost six months. This inertia is leaving the nation without an official empowered to implement an ambitious cybersecurity plan that was unveiled earlier this year.
It is troubling that the Biden administration has waited this long to nominate a new national cyber director given the damage cyberattacks have already inflicted on our economy and the need to have a coordinated effort from the White House to prevent more attacks.report said the nation’s new cybersecurity plan provides a good foundation, but without a national cyber director who can establish goals and responsibilities, it will be a challenge to carry it out.
