“We ordered our food and as soon as it arrived somebody said they needed help.” They then rushed to the other side of the restaurant, found a man slumped over, determined he’d had a stroke, and rendered the necessary aid until paramedics arrived.When V.A. nurses Chris Wieser and Scott Boehm sat at the bar of Gail’s Down the Street Cafe for their lunch break, they didn’t know it then, but the pair were in the right place at the right time.“He was turning blue when we arrived, so he didn’t have long left without oxygen before something really bad was about to happen,” Wieser said. “Yeah, he was in trouble,” Boehm interjected. “I think he probably would have passed away in the chair honestly, you can tell by the color and no attempts at respiration.” The man they saved that day was Ronnie Humphrey, a Veteran described by his wife as a reliable plumber of over five decades. “We’re hired to take care of veterans inside the hospital and to be able to help one in the community was nice,” Boehm said.
