Uvalde schools police chief says he’s cooperating with investigation into mass shooting
Uvalde School Police Chief Pete Arredondo, third from left, at a news conference outside the Robb Elementary school in Uvalde last Thursday.Uvalde school district police chief Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, under intense scrutiny for his handling of the police response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, said Wednesday he is cooperating with state officials investigating the massacre.
On Tuesday, ABC News reported that members of the Uvalde Police Department and the separate, six-member school police force were refusing to cooperate with state officials. On Tuesday night, DPS said that Uvalde police and school officers in fact were cooperating and that Arredondo had been interviewed — but that Arredondo had not responded to requests for a followup interview.
McCraw said Arredondo decided that the crisis had shifted from an “active shooter” situation to a “barricaded subject” situation, that children and teachers were no longer at risk, and that there was time to await the arrival of more officers with specialized equipment.
