Nearly two years after a gunman killed 19 children at Robb Elementary, the mothers continue pleading for stricter gun laws in Texas.
The mothers, who co-founded the gun reform advocacy nonprofit Lives Robbed, continue fighting to prevent other families from understanding the pain they feel every day. “Every day hurts,” Rubio said. Each year marks “longer since we’ve seen our loved ones. That’s what’s difficult.” “The first year is just, it’s a denial,” Mata said. “You’re just trying to wake up every day … it really takes a lot out of you.”It isn’t the grief, which she doesn’t think they have dealt with yet. Instead it’s getting through birthdays and holidays or hanging out with family and friends.
