The Roadrunners can secure home field in the Conference USA championship game and move...
Quarterback Frank Harris and UTSA have a chance in some ways to top last year’s more-talented team that started the season 11-0.Comparing the 2022 UTSA Roadrunners to the group that skyrocketed the program to an 11-0 start and its first Conference USA championship last season, coach Jeff Traylor sees a team that believes “they’re supposed to find a way to win.”
The Roadrunners are also two wins from capping an undefeated run through C-USA’s regular season — a milestone even last year’s group fell short of by one game. On the opposite sideline, Liberty Hill’s players “were covered from top to bottom with the nicest, warmest-looking jackets.” Traylor said he’s spent much of the week reminding the Roadrunners of the last time they stepped into similar conditions — a 45-23 loss to North Texas in Denton to end UTSA’s 11-0 run in last year’s regular-season finale.
UTSA entered last week with just eight forced turnovers in nine games before snaring five takeaways against Louisiana Tech. Safety Clifford Chattman and defensive tackle Brandon Brown said the biggest difference was a simplified call sheet, allowing the Roadrunners to refine the details of each play and formation.
