As UTSA met prior to Tuesday’s practice, cornerbacks coach Nick Graham addressed the group regarding mental toughness, using the week’s culture pillar to remind the Roadrunners about the beauty of embracing challenges and celebrating small victories. Coach Jeff Traylor said the message arrived at the perfect week, with UTSA needing to “find the good somehow” while facing the lowest point of his tenure after a 2-4 start.
The Roadrunners were whistled for two personal fouls, an unsportsmanlike conduct and a late hit, contradicting UTSA’s core value of being “selfless.” The “perfect effort” the Roadrunners preach has also seemed absent at times, like when Chris Carpenter fielded a squib kick during Saturday’s third quarter and chose to slide to the turf, giving himself up with the nearest defender still at least 5 yards away.
