Students walk through the UTSA downtown campus Thursday as officials announced a $500 million fundraising campaign, the largest in the university's history. The University of Texas at San Antonio announced the second — and largest — fundraising effort in its 53-year history late Thursday, a $500 million goal officials aim to reach by 2027.
“We are well ahead of schedule,” Eighmy said. “It says a lot about how everyone believes in UTSA and where we are going as an institution.” Eighmy said student success is central to the campaign, which seeks to improve support systems such as scholarships, fellowships, endowed faculty positions in areas aimed at retaining and attracting students, and special programs and capital projects across San Antonio.
“The MacKenzie Scott gift, which we are using to support financial aid provisions for our students - especially those who come from lower income families - having gotten that gift has opened the door for us to be talking to a number of other family foundations whose principal giving interest is around financial aid provision and student success measures,” Eighmy said.
“We really serve those who are first generation, who typically come from under-resourced backgrounds,” said Kimberly Andrews Espy, UTSA’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
