After embracing preseason hopes of an American Athletic Conference championship, the Roadrunners are just 2-4 to start the year.
In the aftermath of UTSA ’s first loss to Rice since 2014, with the Roadrunners holding a losing record at the midpoint of the season for the first time in his tenure, coach Jeff Traylor understood the risk of his team starting to splinter. But as senior safety Ken Robinson described the Roadrunners ’ mood this week, the first word he settled on was “optimistic.
“I understand the frustration everybody has. We have it much, much worse in this building. We’re very disappointed and sorry for our play so far.” Traylor knew the Roadrunners felt “disheartened” as they aimed to regroup, but he saw full attendance at the team meeting Sunday and noticed no red flags in practices Tuesday or Wednesday.
