Utah veteran Col. Amos L. Wright is turning 100 years old on Father's Day, 2024, and he certainly has a storied life to share. He has not only served his country in three wars but has also left an indelible mark on engineering and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, very few people have seen five generations. Wright and his wife Gloria have five children, 22 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.Their “marvelous family of children” the couple said, and of course, “modern medicine has helped too,” he chuckled. As Wright turns 100 years old this Father’s Day, June 16, five generations of family will come together to celebrate his life.He has lived a life of accomplishment from his early days of falling in love with his wife in 1938 — having been married now for 78 years — to his distinguished military career, which spanned 29 years and saw him serve as a combat engineer in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
Beyond his military service, Wright made significant contributions to engineering history, directing the famous Niagara Falls shutoff in the 1960s. His dedication to the Church is also noteworthy, having overseen the construction of numerous temples and meetinghouses — a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to service.“Boy, we been blessed to have a wonderful family,” he said. “The best thing that ever happened to me was I fell in love with this lady."of KUTV.com for the latest spotlights on outstanding Utahns.
