The Utah System of Higher Education released the official enrollment numbers for Utah Tech University and Southern Utah University. Both universities show an in
crease in enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester.
This freshman class is the first to be admitted since the Supreme Court’ss 2023 ruling that banned Affirmative Action. Dilley said that their demographic data comes from students self-identifying on applications and FAFSA forms. Students can choose not to indicate their race, which may slightly skew data. However, the university said only about 2% of students decline to answer.
Naji Haska Runs Through, a Senior at Utah Tech who leads the Indigenous Students Organization, said she’s seen the this bill limit some of the resources available to minority groups on campus. “This was a space where all the DEI and ethnic racial minority groups gather on campus. Without that, it’s been difficult for those organizations to find a meeting space. It’s almost like we’ve been scattered to the corners of the campus we love,” said Runs Through.
