Wind and stormy weather at the Great Salt Lake on March 1, 2024. Utah's Saturday storm will come in three phases: wind, followed by rain, which will turn to snow once the cold front hits.
By Saturday morning, the majority of Utah was placed under either a Wind Advisory, a High Wind Watch, or a High Wind Warning. Several Winter Storm Advisories and Warnings had also been issued. The windiest portion of the day Saturday for northern and central Utah is expected from morning to afternoon. Southern Utah will experience strong winds throughout the majority of the day, as the cold front likely won't arrive there until Sunday.RELATED STORIES:The cold front will begin to move into the region by noon, and rain showers with the possibility of thunder storms will move into the Wasatch Front by 1 p.m.
The cold front will have fully touched down in northern Utah by 3 p.m., when the precipitation will change to snow. At this time, the temperature in Salt Lake will drop to roughly 14 degrees, and the wind gusts will lighten up. The snow will continue to fall for several hours.By Sunday morning, the northern and central Utah valleys will have accumulated two to six inches of snow. The northern mountains will have accumulated anywhere from 15 to 30 inches.
