One state lawmaker wants to nearly triple the state minimum wage—from the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour to $20 an hour."It is so critical to support working people right now," Blouin said. "We know the livable wage in Utah is actually like $24.
So this just tries to get us close to that." In addition to raising the minimum wage, the bill would require employers to list salary ranges on job applications. "It also has a salary transparency piece to it that would require that potential employers put on their job applications the salary range because people tend to underbid themselves and undervalue themselves," Blouin said.2News spoke with local businesses in downtown Salt Lake City to ask what they thought of this idea. While some were in support, others thought raising it to $20 sounded a bit high. "I think there's lots of people who wouldn't be able to afford to do that," said Diane Etherington, owner of The Children's Hour—a store that has been in the area for more than 40 years."I mean I think everyone wants their employees to know that they love them and that they value them, but you also have to realize that $20 an hour as a starting wage is pretty hard," she said."If you pay people more, they can shop more. They can afford more. And yes, prices will go up a little bit. I think that's just part of the economics, but we have seen plenty of studies showing that raising the minimum wage does not contribute to large-scale job losses. It doesn't contribute to anything like that, to massive inflation," Blouin said. "It will support an economy that is less top-heavy and allows more people to actually afford the things that they need to afford to just get by on a daily basis." Blouin continued to say that he finds it "frustrating" that people feel like they cannot raise the state minimum wage past the federal minimum wage. "We should be able to do better than the federal government here in Utah. That's a message that Utah loves to send so often is that we can do things without their help. So, let's do this," he said. The woman accused of murdering her boyfriend after he was caught taking leggings off her 11-year-old female relative was charged.Fabiola Monserrath Templos, 39,A semi-truck and a box truck were involved in a crash on Interstate 15, forcing traffic to a crawl in Draper. The crash took place shortly before 7 a.m. ThursdayIt's called "property tax relief," but some insist it's property tax pain for low-income Utah seniors."The last thing we need to be doing right now is cutting pThe first man to be taken into custody in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination at Utah Valley University in September entered a guilty plea, lesseninA 14-year-old Utah County girl has died after an off-highway vehicle rollover involving a group of teens.Jalee Anderson was critically injured Friday night whil
