A winter storm expected to bring snow, rain, and high winds will impact Utah from Thursday through Saturday. UDOT issued a Road Weather Alert, urging caution and advising travelers of potential hazardous conditions, especially in mountainous and canyon areas.
A Road Weather Alert has been issued from Thursday through Saturday in anticipation of a winter storm bringing snow, rain showers, and wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour to parts of Utah . The Utah Department of Transportation ( UDOT ) warned that western routes will begin to see snowfall as early as 9 a.m. on February 13th.
This precipitation is expected to move eastward, with significant portions of various interstates experiencing light road snow throughout the morning and afternoon as temperatures gradually increase. \The valley anticipates its worst conditions from Bountiful northward Thursday afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, Utah and Salt Lake Counties will experience light snowfall and warmer temperatures throughout the day, preventing substantial road snow accumulation. By nighttime, the Wasatch Front and valleys are predicted to see a rain or rain-snow mix, continuing into Friday. Later Friday night, authorities anticipate a shift back to snowfall. Mountain and canyon routes across the state are projected to begin accumulating road snow Thursday afternoon through the night. Officials warn of significant accumulation late Thursday into Friday, creating hazardous travel conditions for weekend travelers heading to and from ski resorts. \UDOT also highlighted that strong winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour will blow in from southern and southwestern Utah Thursday afternoon through the evening. I-80 in Tooele County is likely to experience gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour. The alert specifically mentions potential hazardous conditions on: I-15, Idaho border to Bountiful; Scipio Summit; Cove Fort/I-15 Jct to south of Beaver.
