A new bill in Utah aims to eliminate the biannual clock changes by adopting standard time permanently.
A bill has been introduced in Utah to end the practice of changing clocks by moving the state to standard time . Rep. Joseph Elison, R-Toquerville, has filed House Bill 120, which would align Utah with Arizona and Hawaii. The bill would keep Utah on standard time unless the federal government decides to move to Daylight Saving Time , in which case Utah would follow the rest of the country.
Daylight Saving Time has been a top complaint from Utah residents, but past attempts to move to standard time have faced opposition from industries like golf and skiing. While there is widespread support for ending the biannual clock changes, debate persists on whether people prefer 'lighter later' or 'darker earlier'. Rep. Elison said he is proposing standard time because it is something Utah can control. To stay on permanent Daylight Saving Time would require congressional action.
