UT students to march to Capitol for senate hearing on SB 17, banning DEI programs, and to address clashes between protesters and police.
Tue, May 14th 2024 at 10:10 AMUniversity of Texas students and supporters plan to march to the Texas Capitol to testify at a senate hearing regarding Senate Bill 17 , which banned Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness programs on campus, and the hearing will also address recent clashes between student protesters and law enforcement, as well as faculty involvement in the protests.
The Texas Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education was originally going to focus on SB 17 which ended what supporters describe as "discriminatory" diversity, equity and inclusion programs at the state's public universities. Online their posts frequently say D-E-I stands for "Didn't Earn It."
