The U.S. women's national soccer team opened its CONCACAF W Championship with a 3-0 win over Haiti on Monday night in Monterrey. The Americans are trying to win their third consecutive CONCACAF W Championship.
Alex Morgan opened the scoring in the 16th minute. The USWNT striker followed it up in the 23rd minute with a header, making it a 2-0 lead. Morgan now has 20 goals in her last 20 matches in CONCACAF competitions. She now has 117 goals for country in 193 appearances. Haiti was awarded a penalty in the first half after a foul in the box from Emily Fox. Roselord Borgella hit the post, resulting in no goal. Later in the half, Borgella was initially awarded a red card after contact with Kelley O'Hara, but it was downgraded to a yellow after VAR.
In the second half, Midge Purce scored her fourth career goal for country in the 84th minute, extending USWNT's lead. Purce was denied a goal via VAR in the 77th minute. With the victory, USWNT has now won 27 consecutive matches in CONCACAF tournaments dating back to 2010, outscoring opponents 139-0 in those matches. USWNT plays next against Jamaica on Thursday.
