Ingalls Shipbuilding will christen the USS Harrisburg, the first Flight II San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship for the U.S. Navy. The ship is named after the capital city of Pennsylvania and will be the 14th ship in the class.

(WLOX) - Ingalls Shipbuilding is set to christen the USS Harrisburg , the first Flight II in the class constructed for the U.S. Navy. Named after the capital city of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg will be the U.S. Navy’s 14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship .
The city of Harrisburg has played a key role in the development of the nation’s industrial history from its origins as a trading outpost to the present, also playing a critical role in American history during the Westward Migration, the American Civil War, and the Industrial Revolution. Harrisburg will be the second ship in naval service named after the city of Harrisburg, Pa. However, it joins more than 30 others that have been named after cities, places, and people in Pennsylvania, including the Pittsburgh (LPD 31), which is also currently in production at Ingalls. The christening ceremony will take place Saturday, January 11 at 10 a.m. The event is closed to the public but will be live-streamed
