The United States Postal Service (USPS) announced this week is the last chance to mail packages for guaranteed Christmas delivery. Thursday is the final day for Priority Mail, and Friday is the last day for Priority Mail Express Service. USPS officials in Anchorage report a smoother holiday season compared to previous years, possibly due to a shorter post-Thanksgiving period.

This is the last week for United States Postal Service mail to be shipped out, that are aiming to arrive before December 25th. ANCHORAGE , Alaska - This is the last week for United States Postal Service mail to be shipped out to arrive before Dec. 25. Thursday is the last day for all Priority Mail Service and Friday is the final day to mail out any Priority Mail Express Service.

“This time of year we’re running about half a million packages a week, through the processing center,” Paul Horton, with USPS, said. During the last week, Horton said, they tend to see between 100,000 to 150,000 more packages being processed. However, this year, he said things have been running smoothly and the weeks leading up to Christmas have been calmer than years prior.

“This season is one week shorter than normal for the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And so, I think that may be a part of that,” Horton said. “They’re possibly coming in a little later than normal.” In Anchorage, the Postmark Drive USPS location is open at the latest. People can drop off mail between 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the weekends.
