The Roadrunners used a couple days off to rest and shift perspective, finding confidence the season can begin to turn this week at Rice.

When UTSA reconvened Sunday after two days off, coach Jeff Traylor said he could feel a different level of energy as he addressed the group in the team meeting room and walked through the stretch line before practice. Sometimes that enthusiasm can backfire or lead to overeager mistakes, but the film review of the session from a gorgeous Sunday evening reinforced that practice had been “our best one of the season,” Traylor said. “We were buttoned up, kids are having a blast.

Traylor said he hoped the shifting circumstances would help the team find a new outlook, turning the season’s early setbacks into lessons. Brown and Frazier both said the lackluster start to the year hasn’t shifted the team’s mentality. “Everything is still high. Nobody is low,” Frazier said. “Everybody still has the goals everybody wants to reach as a team. Everything is still up in the air.
