There is no organized or steady precipitation around tonight and it will be dry at times, but spotty light freezing drizzle and flurries can cause some icy spots to develop.

Please be careful traveling this evening and overnight. Light flurries and drizzle will be spotty, but temperatures have been around or below freezing all day and continue to be. This makes any light drizzle potentially very dangerous.

That said, there will be times of just dry, cloudy weather. Remember, freezing rain or drizzle is actual rain that falls on surfaces at or below 32 degrees and freezes on contact with those surfaces. So, even if it is very light, that is all it takes to quickly create some icy travel. This is the type of weather that can cause accidents in a hurry. While the best chance for steadier drizzle is along the South Shore and East End of Long Island, these mixed showers can happen anywhere. Late overnight, temperatures will slowly rise above freezing. Watch out for some slick spots lingering early Saturday, but any mixed light showers will eventually change to just plain rain showers. The weekend starts damp and gloomy Saturday morning before drier weather in the afternoon. It will not be nearly as cold with highs in the low to mid-40s.The weather next week is all over the place. Another shot of arctic air will arrive for Monday into Tuesday followed by a warmup with highs nearing 50 degrees, with rain showers on Wednesday.TONIGHT: USE CAUTION — Cloudy with spotty flurries and a chance of freezing drizzle. A light glaze of ice on roads cannot be ruled out. This is because ground temperatures are around or below freezing and we expect spotty, light mixed showers for Friday night. Temperatures will rise slightly above freezing slowly overnight, but if you encounter drizzle, please use extreme caution as it can be freezing on contact with the ground until temperatures get above freezing. Low temperatures will be near 30 degrees. Temperatures slowly rise a bit overnight and into Saturday morning.Slippery spots are possible early in the morning. Showers taper off through the morning. Otherwise, mostly cloudy with a few late-day breaks of sun are possible. Highs will be around 44 degrees. Lows near 29 degrees.MONDAY: VERY COLD AGAIN — Sun and clouds, with breezy conditions. Highs around 35 degrees. Wind chills will be in the 20s. Lows near 18 degrees.WEDNESDAY:Mostly cloudy. Highs around 45 degrees. Lows near 28 degrees.More from News 12
