The list of frozen pizza and snack food brands subject to a public health alert grew longer this week as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) added some regional items to varieties that were sold nationwide.

Anyone who purchased one of the products listed is advised not to eat them and throw them away or return them to where they were purchased. Retailers who bought them are urged not to sell or serve them. Eating food contaminated with Salmonella could lead to salmonellosis, which is one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses, the USDA explained.
The symptoms, which include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, can start as soon as six hours after consumption but could wait as long as six days to appear. Typically, the symptoms will last four to seven days and people will recover without treatment, but in some cases they may need to seek medical attention. Older adults, infants, and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop more severe illnesses.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the alert about meat and poultry products containing the potentially contaminated dairy ingredients after the Food and Drug Administration reported that multiple establishments received ingredients that were made with dry milk powder that had already been recalled.
