Two University of Southern California students were arrested last week in connection with the alleged theft of NFL jerseys used by the league for the first round of the draft, which was held Thursday in Kansas City.

The students, identified in court documents as 40-year-old Eric Lambkins and 19-year-old Jude Ocanas, were credentialed reporters covering the draft for Annenberg Media, a news platform overseen and funded by the USC Annenberg journalism school. They were charged with two felonies, second-degree burglary and stealing , and first-degree trespassing, a misdemeanor.

Later Friday, Kansas City police detained Lambkins and Ocanas as they were waiting to board a flight back to California. After a judge authorized a warrant to search their luggage, police said, officers found a Cowboys jersey in Ocanas’s bag that matched the description of the stolen item, and a similar 49ers jersey was found in Lambkins’s bag.“Out of respect for our system of justice, we are not going to comment on the evidence outside of the courtroom.
