Two US service members were killed on Friday at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, identified as 1st Lt Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach,Hawaii and Pvt Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. the incident occurred as U.S. Central Command ( CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on July 17.
The US had threatened to retaliate in response to the attacks on Monday following the collapse of the US-brokered peace deal last week. US President Donald Trump had threatened to retaliate in response to the attacks, stating that every period Iran kills an American soldier they will pay for that killing many times over. CENTCOM announced Monday that it had completed a recent round of strikes against Iran as the United States escalates its efforts against Tehran.
The strikes are designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This development comes after the president attended the dignified transfer of six US service members who died after a KC-135 refueling aircraft crasHed in Iraq earlier this year. Since the war started on February 28, seventeen service members are confirmed to have been killed.
The incident is a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, and the risks faced by US service members in the region
