Panamá se sumó a la iniciativa, la cual promueve y financia proyectos de infraestructura y desarrollo, después de que el gobierno panameño dejó de reconocer diplomáticamente a Taiwán y reconoció a Beijing.

Rubio también hizo énfasis en el principal enfoque de Trump —frenar la inmigración ilegal—, diciéndole a Mulino que era importante colaborar en las labores y le agradeció por aceptar de vuelta a los migrantes.
