World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev won his first grand slam title Sunday, beating world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open final.
Medvedev became the third ever Russian Grand Slam men's singles champion. The 25-year-old wins his maiden major title in his third attempt and becomes the ninth different US Open men's singles champion of the last 14 years. Medvedev also becomes the first man since Rafael Nadal in 2010 and second since Ivan Lendl in 1987 to drop only one set en route to a US Open men's singles title.
