A new CDC analysis shows U.S. maternal deaths keep edging down. On Wednesday, the CDC reported 649 mothers died in 2024 during pregnancy or soon after birth. That is down from 669 in 2023. One researcher says provisional 2025 data also looks promising. He cautions the count can change as records get added or removed.
