The US Marshals Service says, Travis Decker, the man accused of murdering his three daughters, is dead.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Travis Decker, the man accused of murdering his three daughters and sparking a massive months-long multi-agency manhunt, is dead. The United States Marshals Service has advised the Defendant TRAVIS CALEB DECKER is deceased," a document in a federal case against Decker said.

The filing by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, dated Tuesday, is a motion to dismiss the case and quash the arrest warrant for Decker.to confirm whether the remains found near Leavenworth are indeed Decker’s. Last week, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said decomposing remains were discovered on Grindstone Mountain at an elevation of 4,000 feet, surrounded by personal items such as clothing believed to belong to the 32-year-old father. The manhunt for Decker was the largest in the county's history as detectives continue to investigate what Morrison called the county's most heinous homicide. While he initially said the agency had hoped for DNA results by the night of Sept. 19, he later acknowledged that for the case to be closed properly, the agency doesn't want to rush the Washington State Patrol's lab tests.BACKGROUND INFORMATION: THE HUNT FOR TRAVIS DECKER The investigation into the tragic deaths of Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia Decker confirmed that their father, Travis Decker, remained the sole suspect in their murders, with DNA evidence linking him and only him to the crime scene. The bodies of the three sisters, ages 5, 8, and 9, were discovered on June 2, 2025, near the Rock Island Campground along Icicle Creek, each with plastic bags over their heads and their wrists zip-tied. Two of the victims each had two separate bags over their heads, and the third victim had three separate bags over her head, according to a release from the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.KOMO News' ongoing coverage of the murders of the Decker sisters and the manhunt for their fatherIn early June, the county medical examiner determined that the cause of death for each girl was suffocation, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. While Decker was always the lead suspect in the killings, on Aug. 18, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office reaffirmed him as the sole suspect in the crime following DNA testing of evidence. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office reported that the Washington State Crime Lab found DNA profiles matching Travis Decker on the plastic bags that covered each of his daughters' heads, as well as cable ties collected at the scene. No other DNA profiles, other than that of the girls, were found on any of the evidence. The completion of this DNA analysis provides additional evidence that indicates Travis Decker is the only suspect involved in committing these homicides," the sheriff's office stated.State lawmakers and advocates push for Amber Alert reform after Chelan County tragedy Local and federal law enforcement have searched for the 32-year-old father from the air and on the ground after the bodies of his daughters were discovered. The girls were first reported missing on May 30 after Decker failed to return them to their mother as part of their court-ordered visitation plan. Decker’s visits were limited to the boundaries of the Wenatchee Valley, with no overnight visits allowed. The family's attorney said a judge last September recommended Decker get a psychiatric evaluation and treatment. His known mental health problems include PTSD, borderline personality disorder, and other trauma as a former Army Ranger. The girls' bodies were discovered in an abandoned campground just days later, with Decker nowhere to be found. Decker was charged with three counts of murder and kidnapping. Federal prosecutors also charged Decker with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Court documents obtained by KOMO News say Decker Google searched “how does a person move to Canada,” “how to relocate to Canada,” and “jobs Canada” in the days before he kidnapped his daughters. Since the crime, local, state, and federal resources have scoured Chelan and Kittitas counties, with hundreds of people and thousands of hours being put into the search. Decker was an infantryman in the Army from March 2013 to July 2021 and deployed to Afghanistan for four months in 2014. He had training in navigation, survival, and other skills, authorities have said, and he once spent more than two months living in the backwoods off the grid. The killing of the sisters plunged their community into grief and shock, with an outpouring of support directed to the girls' mother. At a memorial for the girls on June 20, Whitney Decker told the crowd she remembers encouraging her daughters to share their feelings, big and small, at the end of every day. She urged others to live similarly. "I believe doing this allowed them to come into the world with open hearts and kindness. I hope you are all able to do some version of the three feelings with your loved ones," Whitney cried. "I’m so thankful for the time I had with the girls." State lawmakers, parents of victims and child safety advocates also called for a full review of the Amber Alert system following the murders of the three girls.
