US-Israeli soldier, thought to be taken hostage, confirmed dead in Oct. 7 attack, IDF says

Neutra -- originally from New York -- was serving as a tank platoon commander in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Brigade at the time of the Hamas attack. He was among hundreds of security forces personnel killed during the assault. Diplomats see a potential opening after last week's ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group, an ally of Hamas that began launching rocket attacks and trading fire with Israel the day after the October 2023 attack.
