Recent U.S. and allied drone and human exercises allegedly showed promise as part of Project Convergence Capstone 4.

The exercise was designed to test integration of drones into US and allied units to make them more lethal and efficient.Various United States armed forces recently conducted an “in-the-dirt” training exercise using drones and troops.

Designed to make military units “more lethal and efficient,” the exercise was a useful testbed for future human and drone operations. The exercise, called Project Convergence Capstone 4 , also included representatives from nations like the United Kingdom and Japan. It was held at Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin, California, from February 23 to March 20. Over 4000 Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force participants participated.“PC-C4 is an Army-hosted, joint and multinational experiment that will inform the integration of modernization capabilities, such as layered defense systems, to increase the effectiveness of weapon systems and force protection,” explains the In this respect, the DoD explains that Layered Defense aims to test the sensor capabilities of unmanned drones and manned aircraft.“Layered defense means we will see different weapons against targets from the defended area,” said Air Force Major Morgan Huttes, the director of operations from the 134th Air Control Squadron. “This way, the coalition can increase the probability of killing while maximizing our weapons efficiency,” he added. The PC-C4 experiments also tested human-drone strategies as a multinational and joint forces team. “We’ve all seen how the battlefield is changing, we know that you can’t have these big C2 nodes that are out there,” Staff “We know that machines can do a lot of things right now much more effectively and much cheaper, and we’re going to have to incorporate them into our formations,” he added. An example of how advanced technology can be utilized is combining robotic dogs and unmanned aircraft systems to analyze the surroundings.“That was all tied together by a simple command-and-control network that was easy to use and intuitive,” said George. It was amazing,” he added. He also stressed the importance of testing equipment in the environment where it will be used, not just in a showroom or laboratory. According to the release, the promising results achieved signal a possible integration of advanced tech into army units in the future.Featured drones included the Anduril Industries “Ghost-X” drone. Weighing around 55 pounds , the drone can fly for 75 minutes up to a range of 15.5 miles . This drone is ideal for “Point and Click Mission Planning” and is a great tool for getting intel on the battlefield. Other field-tested drones include the Ghost Robotic Dog.” is highly durable, agile, and capable of withstanding a wide range of unstructured urban and natural environments.
