US Justice Department lawyers say releasing Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira as he awaits trial would be a grave threat to America's national security.
US federal prosecutors will urge a judge to keep behind bars a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman accused of leaking highly classified military documents, arguing he may still have access to secret national defence information he could expose.
Mr Teixeira has been in jail since his arrest earlier this month on charges stemming from one of the highest-profile US intelligence leaks in years. "The damage the defendant has already caused to the US national security is immense. The damage the defendant is still capable of causing is extraordinary."
